Suspected 'bombs' found just yards from a primary school and a mosque in Exeter yesterday have been revealed to be suitcases filled with unwanted electrical equipment. Hundreds of people including schoolchildren were evacuated from the city centre on Monday morning while bomb disposal squads inspected the suspicious packages. But police officers have now revealed the alert was a false alarm, and released pictures of the suspected devices - showing they were suitcases filled with spare computer parts and electrical wiring. Superintendent Keith Perkin said the person who dumped the suitcases that sparked the evacuation has been spoken to by officers and offered 'words of advice'. 'We have released these images of the suitcases following the work undertaken by the bomb disposal experts to show to the public the type of incident we were dealing with, and why all involved in yesterday’s incident felt it appropriate to... 'This is never a decision taken lightly and we are aware of the disruption this causes to both residents and businesses affected, however, I hope these images of the cases will offer some understanding to the public on why we adopted a safety... 'It appears that one person had filled the cases with old computer materials and electrical wiring and placed these in a nearby skip. Later, another person took these cases from the skip but abandoned them on York Road and King William Street. “There was no malicious intent in relation to the placing of the cases and this individual has been given words of advice in relation to this matter. A large part of Exeter city centre in Devon was cordoned off to members of the public while bomb disposal experts inspected the packages. The first suspicious package, a large suitcase, was found on railings outside St Sidwell's Primary School in the city just before 7am by a caretaker who claimed to see 'wires coming out of it'. A second package, also a large suitcase, was found a... Hundreds of residents and workers were ordered to stay away from their homes, businesses and the school after the alarm was raised just before 7am. Kathryn Rowden, headteacher of St Sidwell's Primary School, said caretaker Brent Hibbs found the... The school was evacuated and closed, with children taken to a nearby chapel and church before being collected by their parents. Police then set up a 100-metre exclusion zone around neighbouring streets and closed Exeter Mosque which is situated close to the school grounds. The exclusion zone was widened even further just after 9am when a second suspicious package was discovered at the nearby King William Street car park. Mrs Rowden said all but one of the 200 pupils at the school and 42 in nursery had been collected by their parents by 10am. She said: 'Obviously our first thoughts were for the safety of the children and staff. 'Our staff did an excellent job in evacuating the children quickly and efficiently. But I would point out that St Sidwell's is a Church of England school and we have children of all faiths, and some with no faith, who learn together and play together very harmoniously. Shoppers said they were shocked to be turned away from the city centre in the aftermath of the incident. Karen Hoskins, 46, who lives in the city, said: 'It's extremely concerning considering what's happened in Tunisia and.
